Thank you for visiting my campaign website. I hope you’ll spend a few moments to learn who I am and the issues that are dear to my heart. As a father, the education of my children is a priority. As a businessman, I understand the importance of a strong educational system in a community, and as a school board member, I am able to impact and inspire the future. As your State Board of Education representative, I hope to take these principles and knowledge to the state level.
Your trust is not taken lightly as I endeavor to be a champion for public education.
Thank you again for visiting my website. I look forward to serving you and the people of our great state of Texas.
Dr. Keven M. Ellis
Dr. Keven Ellis, a longtime Lufkin resident, family man, and local businessman, has shown strong leadership as he advocates conservative education principles for teachers, students and families in the Lufkin Independent School District.
When he opened Ellis Chiropractic in 1998 in Lufkin, Dr. Ellis also began a public service career that has propelled his community to reach it’s fullest potential, especially in education. He is actively involved in the community, serving with local boards, including the Lufkin Host Lions Club, where he served as president for 2012-13, member of the Lufkin ISD Tri-Ethnic Board, President of Angelina County Benefit Rodeo, Chairman of Small Business Council for Angelina County Chamber of Commerce, President of the Z&OO Railroad, Chairman of Eastview United Pentecostal Church’s building committee and Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 136. In 2012, he was elected to the Lufkin ISD Board of Trustees and currently serves as Board President. Dr. Ellis is also a charter member of the Lufkin ISD Education Foundation.
He believes that school districts can meet the needs of their communities, so Dr. Ellis worked with Lufkin ISD to bring a Neuhaus certified dyslexic therapist to every campus in the district. With two dyslexic children, Dr. Ellis knows firsthand these therapists can help the hundreds of students who struggle with reading and need intervention.
Dr. Ellis has been actively involved in implementing the 2013 Texas House Bill 5 including keeping the rigorous Distinguished Graduation Plan as the default plan at Lufkin ISD as well as continuing to offer a multitude of career, vocational and educational opportunities.
Dr. Ellis and his wife, Shelli Cox Ellis, have three children, twins Kati & Jacob who are attending Texas A&M and son, John who is attending Lufkin High School.
With Dr. Ellis representing District 9 in the State School Board of Education, we can rest assured that Texas will once again be at the forefront of providing a 21st Century education.
About the Issues
I am your champion for public education. Since 2007 I have actively served on the Lufkin ISD Quality School Task Force, Tri-Ethnic Committee, Education Foundation and Board of Trustees and currently serve as President of the Lufkin ISD School Board.
Serving Lufkin ISD in this capacity has given me a full understanding of the needs and challenges facing our students and districts around the state.
As a proud Republican, I believe serving on the State Board of Education will allow me to continue what I set out to do: to provide a better education for my grandchildren and for the future leaders of this great State.
When elected to the State Board of Education, I will continue to stand for conservative education values and to tackle the issues facing our district now:
* Texas must be at the forefront of providing a 21st Century education and empowering local districts to meet the needs of their communities.
* Texans understand how best to educate Texas children without interference from the federal government. Local school boards understand the needs of their children better than anyone else.
* Teachers in the state of Texas chose this profession for the love of teaching, not for the love of testing. If we will let teachers do what they know how to do best, our children will be successful.
We must prepare our children for a world that is rapidly changing. Everything we do must be focused on the parents, the teachers, and the children in our district. I am proud to have served the 8,300 students at Lufkin ISD and look forward to applying the real world experience I’ve gained to benefit the five million students in Texas Schools.
